Our Legacy

Kauffman Seeds has been rooted in innovation and service since 1965, when Edward Kauffman launched an alfalfa seed cleaning business to meet local farmers’ needs. Over the decades, the business evolved, led first by Edward’s daughter Lois and her husband Jerry Wyse, who expanded offerings to include certified wheat and soybeans, building the foundation for a robust seed portfolio. By the mid-1990s, agriculture was shifting toward biological advancements, and Kauffman Seeds was at the forefront, partnering to form Midland Genetics®, which brought Roundup Ready® soybeans and cutting-edge corn, sorghum, and forage genetics to local farmers.

With Tom Clayman and Dustin Miller at the helm starting in the 2000s, Kauffman Seeds introduced cover crops, further diversifying its offerings to support entire farming operations. This adaptability positioned the company to thrive in the ever-changing agricultural landscape while staying committed to providing locally adapted solutions. Following Tom’s passing in 2023, Kauffman Seeds retired the Midland Genetics® brand, proudly unifying all products under the Kauffman Seeds name.
